Our Story – what to expect

Welcome!   Main Street Christian Church is a nondenominational Christian Church located in Saltville, Va. We’re a rural congregation that is serious about three things: reaching, teaching and preaching. We’re serious about reaching people for the Gospel of Christ. We’re serious about teaching people what God wants for them. We’re serious about preaching the Word of God.

We’re a blended church: blended in our worship, members and atmosphere. We sing both old and new songs in worship. We have a wide age range of people that attend. We also have a very laid back atmosphere. We’re people of the Book that are Christians alone but are not the only Christians.

What We Believe

God

We believe that there is one true God [Isa. 45:5]. He created everything [John 1:1-3. Gen. 1:1-2:3]. He preserves all things [Col. 1:15-17] He is one [John 10:30] but He exists eternally as Father, Son and Spirit [2 Cor. 13:14]. He is the source of all Truth [John 14:6, 17] God has reveled himself through creation [Ps.19:1], the Bible [Luke 24:17], the person and work of Jesus Christ [Heb. 1:1-3] and the continual work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of Christians [John 16:13-15]

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus is the only son of God. [2 Peter 1:17], he was conceived by the Holy Spirit without a human father [Matt. 1:18], born of the virgin Mary [Luke 1:26-38], He was crucified as the only atonement for the of the world [2 John 2:2], was raised from the dead [Acts 2:24] and He is now seated at the right hand of God in heaven. [Eph. 1:20]. There he serves as our High Priest [Heb. 4:14 -16]. He is waiting to return to Earth to judge all, the living and the dead, as well as the righteous and the unrighteous and the living and the dead. [Acts 17:31]

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the God-Head and was sent from God. [John 14:25] to glorify Jesus Christ. [John 16:14]. He convicts the world of it’s sin and unbelief. [John 16:8]. He regenerates those who believe [Titus 3:5]. He indwells within the Christian [Rom. 8:9-11]. He also guides Christians to truth [John 16:13]. He also helps Christians to do the work of ministry. [Eph. 4:7-13]

The Bible

We believe the Old and New Testaments are both both the Word of God. They are both breathed out by God and his prophets, [2 Tim. 3:16-17]. They were recorded by men who were guided by the Holy Spirit. They are without error in their original form. The facts and statements made in them are true for salvation. They are completely trustworthy record of divine revelation. [2 Pet. 1:21]. They are, therefore the final authority in all things faith and supernatural. All events that are recorded happened and are true.

Sin

We believe sin entered humanity through Adam and Eve [Rom. 5:12], who were made in the image of God. [Gen. 1:26] They Choose to reject God’s will [Gen. 2:15-17; 3:1-7]. This has caused their descendants estranged from God [Eph. 2:1] also enslaved to the power of sin through their own disobedience. [John 8:34]

Salvation

We believe that God reaches out in grace [Titus 2:11] and freely justifies those who respond in faith to His offer of salvation in Christ [Rom. 4:23-25]. There is salvation only in the blood of Jesus Christ who bore our penalty as our substitute on the cross. This is applied to the heart of the sinner when he comes to faith and responds properly to the Gospel that the Apostles preached and is recorded in the New Testament. The proper response by a man or woman is to hear the Gospel, repent of his or her sins, put his or her faith in Christ, and be united with Jesus Christ through water baptism.

The Church

We believe the mission given to the church is to penetrate the many cultures and people groups of the world with the Gospel, to make disciples[Matt. 28:19], and to plant local churches which will themselves be faithful to the mission. Christians should seek to remove division and to attain unity, for which Christ prayed as the means of bringing the world to Him.

Our Mission

Reach

We want to reach the world for Jesus Christ. It is our aim to make Jesus known to as many people as possible as commanded by The Great Commission. [Matt 28:16-20]

Teach

We want to teach Jesus, and Jesus alone. We want to let people know all the information and concepts found in the Bible as commanded by The Great Commission. [Matt 28:16-20]

Preach

We want to preach all the things Jesus commanded us to know, do and say so that we can make his kingdom known all around the Earth as commanded by The Great Commission. [Matt 28:16-20]
